I've been banned for many a feat, but "naughty language" hasn't been one of them.

My guild leader does not allow us to mention Canada. Unless, we are insulting it.

^ same here. I've never been reported/banned for harsh language although I tend to be a tad extreme when things go really bad and I get frustrated beyond belief. I also have reported someone for it and probably gotten them banned (because I haven't seen him online since a day after I reported him, and neither have my friends)... You'd be surprised what people can pull out of the bag when you tell them it's only a game.

I don't swear very often myself and if I do it's usually out loud, by the time I would have thought to commit the words to the chat window, the impulse has passed. I don't find swearing all that offensive and in 2+ years of playing I only ever reported on person who thought it was funny to take every quest from the first reaper in the UW and spout racist abuse at the rest of the party.

I don't use not like foul language, have the basic chat filter on and never had problems with a ban. Simple.

Yeah I got banned a couple times. One time I just said the N word and didn't even direct it anyone, I was using it in a context where I was trying to explain something and some trigger happy report person felt the need to report me.

I'll never understand people who get offended by words that are meant for good.

I love swearing to an extent where I'll just swear in real life for kicks and giggles for a lengthy amount of time. I'm mature enough to use these words in a context that they are not aimed at anyone.

I swore a lot more in game though, back when Grotto was a bit more full. Hell I would tell full fledged pron stories. Most people just can't take the heat!

Almost reported a member of my guild yesterday for using a 3-letter word referring to Japanese people right as we entered the Vinanuh Square mission... (this forum does not censor that word, but I chose to edit it out anyway)

Only reason I didn't is that I was too focused trying to figure out what was going on.

Honestly, the older you get, the less excuses you can make for using language like that. GW is a social game, not a soap box for iconoclastic hate mongers, nor even for the chronically rude or socially inept.

Well certainly not for swearing, I agree, as that is filterable. But offensive language is not necessarily swearing. The filters do nothing against racial and sexual slurs.

Nope, I've never been reported/banned for inappropriate language. I don't use it in chat. (On TS, that's a different story sometimes - LOL) But I may make someone mad one of these days when I announce to beggars "FREE MONEY!!! See Ipillu Whupwup in Whitman's Folley!" (which is a smart-a** way of saying "go out and kill stuff.") I've been called a scammer and a few less flattering things when I've done that.

I won't normally report someone for the one-time thing, but when someone is on a tirade and spewing it out, it's gonna get the /report stick.

I never got banned for bad language, but I don't use bad language for the sake of insulting people, I just use bad language because I'm a foul mouthed bad-ass. Only thing happened to me is guru posts getting deleted because of dirty jokes :P.

I cuss like a sailor and have never so much as gotten a warning. Actually got someone *else* banned for claiming to be an ANet employee, he was /whispering everyone to stop swearing or else he'd ban us. I guess the bozo played too much WoW, where GMs will casually message you over the course of the game, and thought ANet did the same.

Personally I think that if you get banned *just* for language you either pushed your luck or some people at ANet have really thin skins and you had the misfortune of having them make the call.

I've never been reported - but then again the only 4-letter word I tend to use is: "Noob"!

ive had ppl pm me ingame about how im a fag and like to f-goats. this was due to me kicking someone from a pug cause his build was horrid. needless to say they got reported.

i dont report ppl unless they offend me. and im very hard to offend. its the racial/religious slurs that get me.

"Ever get reported for inappropriate language?"

is that the thread title?

YOU KNOW when you use inappropriate language correct?
http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/How_to_report

someone check up on logs to see what was said and how it was said before a ban. now you can complain and cry all you want here. but the fact remains that you were banned for a reason.

OC im assuming you were banned because if the report was unfounded then you would never even know about it.

No.

Swearing in a populated area is just dumb. Doing so with guildies/friend in PM etc is fine.

My Guild leader is Canadian, but I still insult it all the time. =P

But back on track, the language filter is there for a reason. Arenanet really has no reason hand out bans for something that some players find offensive that they can just turn off.

I've never been banned for it.
